SISTERHOOD SHABBAT
Sisterhood programs are open to all women over the age of Bat Mitzvah. We have a wonderful schedule of programs planned this year. Please watch for a printed schedule in the near future.
If you happen to be a new congre-gant, your Sisterhood dues are free for the first year. Please join us for fun as well as educational activities. We‘d love to see you. If you are interested in joining one of our committees, just give me a call.

We meet the 4th Tuesday each month at 7pm, just following the 6:30pm Minyan.   If you can come to Minyan, you will be doing a real Mitzvah. Congregants that need to say Kaddish depend on the Minyan, and greatly appreciate your participation.  Come to our meetings. Nothing is required except your smiling face. We have room for everyone.

Reasons to buy at the Beth Shalom Sisterhood Gift Shop:

  • You will be helping to support your Synagogue and Israel – most of our merchandise comes from Israel.
  • The merchandise is beautiful – many “one of a kind” items and the prices are reasonable.
  • We sell everything you need for holidays, baby gifts, wedding and anniversary gifts, birthday and “no occasion” gifts, mezzuzot for new homes, AHAVA skin care products, jewelry, books and custom designed invitations for your special events.  We sell religious items and non religious articles as well.

MEN’S CLUB OUTING
The Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs is initiating a series entitled —Men’s Health Tip of the Month.

The tips apply equally to women and children. We would like all of Beth Shalom’s members to take steps to improve their health. Here are some basic steps.

Strength training is an important part of maintaining health. As people age, their muscles become smaller and weaker and their bone density decreases. The factor most responsible for the density decreases is disuse, although age, hormonal changes, and dietarydeficiencies contribute as well. If you don’t use it, you lose it. It has been shown that poor muscle strength in midlife predicts functional limitations and disability 25 years later. Resistance training makes muscles stronger, increases muscle protein synthesis and boosts the body’s production of testosterone and growth hormone in men, helping to explain how muscles get bigger and stronger. Larger muscles mean faster metabolism which burns more calories. Even when at rest, muscle cells are more metabolically active than fat cells. That is why people who maintain muscles as they age are less likely to pack on extra pounds. Talk to your doctor, and if you are healthy enough to start an exercise program, don’t neglect the strength training. If you decide to “pump iron”, make sure you learn how to do it correctly. When done improperly, it can be harmful and even dangerous. (Information for this article was obtained by FJMC from the Harvard’s Men’s Health Watch.)

ROSH CHODESH WOMEN'S GROUP
Learn about the many Jews who, after being driven out of Spain in 1492, fled to the"New World"secretly practiced their religion. More than 500 years later, the influence of these people and their culture is still evident in New Mexico and the Southwest. Vera Benjamin will share some fascinating information with us as we welcome Rosh Hodesh Nisan on Sunday, March 14 at 7:00 PM in the Beth Shalom Chapel. All women Bat Mitzvah age and over are invited to join us. Bring your mother, your daughter, your sister, your friend -- and, of course, your tambourine.
UPCOMING DATES…….
April 11—Rosh Hodesh Iyar
May 9—Rosh Hodesh Sivan

This group is open to women over Bar
Mitzvah age. Please make plans to join
with us.
